Throughout the year, teachers at Teens Computer School develop the curriculum, teaching methods and technological adaptations of “adult” professional computer programs, designated for students 8 to 18 years of age. The developed curriculum has been “run” and has proved that it is effective.

Animation Course and Digital Design for kids in Saint John New Brunswick

If your child has no computer experience at all, if he of she loves cartoons, YouTube and computer games, then this course is for him.
The objective of this course is to teach the student not only the basics of computer and Windows operation systems but to introduce your child to the digital world and digital design.


In this Digital Design and Animation Course in Saint John New Brunswick:
settings and customization of the Windows operating system, the organization of folders and files, the basis of Internet usage, Introduction to Animation.

The further course program is designed to introduce the child to the most interesting topics. For example 2D animation, graphic design, video game creation, digital art, video design, website creation and other topics that are interesting for all children.
In the future, this will allow the child to consciously choose a course for in-depth study.

Requirements:

For school students from 9 to 12 years old.

Students must have a laptop or desktop computer with Windows or Mac OS operation system and Internet connection.

8 – 10 students per class. Two instructors per class.

1:5 ratio

1:5 ratio Teacher to Student ratio, or better. All instructors are police-checked, triple-reference checked, and highly trained.

 Certificate of Course Completion

We provide Certificates of completion for students that complete our 40 lessons courses. 

Upon completion of a Digital Design and Animation Course, a Certificate will be issued. A course completion certificate says you have attended all the classes required, pass all the tests required, and handed in all the work required. We provide Certificates of completion for students that complete our 40 lessons courses.

Students complete the program with a professional portfolio. Teens Computer School also provides the graduates with assistance on portfolio and resume preparation for future education in colleges or Universities.

Course Curriculum

Introduction to Windows.

Module 1.

During this module students will an introduction to the basic Windows functions. From connecting to a Wi-Fi network to locating and running applications, learn all about Windows 10. Bring your own, fully charged Windows 10 laptop. Learn the basics of using a Windows-based computer: hardware, software, storage devices and how to navigate.
Students will learn how to configure Windows 10 desktops. Students will develop skills that include learning how to customize, and update Windows 10 operating systems. Students will learn how to managing storage, files, and devices as well as how to use and configure email and WiFi networks.  Students will also learn how to secure the Windows 10 OS and protect the data on the device. Finally, students will learn how to manage and troubleshoot Windows 10.

Module 2.
Introduction to Graphic Design with Canva 

Introduction to Canva. One of the best graphic design online software.  Canva is a tool loaded with enough easy-to-use features and functionality that anyone can create a variety of engaging content. By the end of this module, you will have created a full set of consistent visuals that will actually help you create a great graphic design project.  You will have mastered Canva and will be able to use it to produce any kind of visuals you need and take your design skills to the next level!

Module 3.
Introduction to Graphic Design with Adobe Photoshop

Get up and running with Photoshop, the industry-leading digital image editing tool. Learn the basics and find resources for taking your learning to the next level.

Photoshop will help your kids to:

  • Learn shortcuts and basic functions of photoshop.
  • Understand how layers work and manipulate them.
  • Importing and exporting images in PS.
  • Learn about digital graphic types.
  • Learn about color modes and printing standards.
    Imagery Editing
  • Learn to crop, color edit, sharpen and remove imperfections
  • Add type, selection technique and manipulate layer options.

Basic digital Photoshop techniques.

Module 4.
2D and
Stop Motion Animation

Animation is a process where pictures and images are shown in a rapid order or sequence to create the illusion of movement. These pictures and images can be hand drawn, made on a computer, or photographs of 3D objects.

What Are Stop Motion And 2D Animation?

The two different animation techniques in a nutshell: The 2D Animation part is about bringing drawings to life, using computer software to animate characters, adding sound and special effects. Stop Motion Animation is where multiple camera shots are joined together to make a film.

This module also covers the more technical side of making animation, including:

  • Frames and frame rates
  • Timelines
  • Computer-aided drawing
  • Create flowing animation
  • Animation physics – velocity, acceleration, bouncing, etc.
  • Morphing, squashing, stretching
  • Adding sound such as backing tracks, effects and voices, then syncing them with the animation
  • Special effects

Module 4.
Learning to Code using Tynker Junior

The Tynker Junior course collection comprising of different adventures helps kids 5- 7 years old develop foundational programming skills. As they progress through the adventures, students learn about sequencing, parameters, events, loops, conditional logic, and nested loops that help to establish foundational coding skills. Then they apply their coding skills in free-form coding studios where they build their own projects with art, music, and animation.

Tynker Junior is designed specifically for young children aged 5-7 — who have limited motor skills and are still developing hand-eye coordination — to learn to code using big blocks, pictures, voiceovers, and tap-tap-tap interactions, without words or drag-and-drop or any other actions they may find too tedious or overwhelming.

Module 6. 

Animation in Scratch

S ee how easy learning computer science can be. Use Scratch to create games, animations, stories and more.
This Module is an introduction to computer science using the programming language Scratch, developed by MIT.

Starting with the basics of using Scratch, the course will stretch your mind and challenge you. You will learn how to create amazing games, animated images, and songs in just minutes with a simple “drag and drop” interface.

No previous programming knowledge needed. Join us as you start your computer science journey.

Schedule & Tuition

Summer Semester. June 15, 2021 – August 25, 2021

2 lessons per week in one day. Each lesson  1 hours. 10 min. break.
Tuition fee:
$49.00 +HST per one week (weekly payments)
 $39.00 +HST per one week. (If you pay for the for the entire semester in two equal installments).

Classes are held once a week in Saint John Uptown. Each class – 2 hours. 10 min. break .

As any regular classroom, your Coding for kids course begins by viewing a slide presentation and watching a video leсture or by listening to a lecture.

What time do I need to study at home?

Students have to do some home assessments for 1 – 1.5 hours once a week. As in any other class, students should take notes in their notebooks as they study the learning material.

Home assessments

Students should complete a home assessment at a convenient time before the next time and bring this assessment in class. Students will have to complete a certain number of tasks for each week of study. Most assessments are small projects on a base of previous lesson curriculum.  Larger long-term assessments (projects) to be completed at the end of each month of the study or semester.
